The execution of a search warrant in a joint operation involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the California Highway Patrol, and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of an Orangevale man on 12JAN24 who is suspected of emplacing improvised explosive devices (IED) alongside roads and highways in El Dorado County and Sacramento County, California. The suspect has been charged with unlawful explosion of a destructive device, maliciously or recklessly possessing an explosive device, and possession of a destructive device or explosives. The suspect has previously been found guilty of starting over 24 wildfires in 2006 and 2007.

The IED attack is believed to have been carried out as an escalation in an ongoing rivalry between two air conditioning companies who have been entangled in multiple lawsuits since 2013. Helena man accused of threatening school pleads guilty to possessing homemade explosives
