Drugs, guns and explosives seized in Merlin

The Rogue Area Drug Enforcement team in a joint operation served a search warrant on 05FEB24 in Grants Pass, Oregon leading to the discovery of methamphetamine, eight firearms, cash, and explosives. The explosives discovered consisted of a pipe bomb and multiple commercial blasting caps.

Man charged with making rockets, explosive devices in Sioux City home

Federal agents arrested a suspect in connection to firing explosive rockets which caused a grass fire in Plymouth County, Iowa. During the execution of a search warrant on the suspect’s home in Sioux City, Iowa law enforcement discovered military-grade explosives, black powder, flash powder, fuses, ignition devices, 11 destructive devices, six possible handmade explosive devices, metal tubing, three firearms, and other unlabeled powders currently undergoing lab analysis. The suspect has two prior felony convictions for arson and has now been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of an explosive by a felon, receipt and possession of an unregistered firearm or destructive device and making an unregistered firearm or destructive device.

Broomfield police investigate possible pipe bomb found during traffic stop

A Broomfield police officer discovered a suspected pipe bomb after conducting a traffic stop which led to an arrest due to the suspect having an active warrant on 06FEB24 in Broomfield, Colorado. The Adams County Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene to assist with the suspected pipe bomb and further investigation of the vehicle led to the discovery of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Bomb squad responds to military ordnance in Medford

The Massachusetts State Police Bomb squad responded to reports of a discovered military ordnance item on 03FEB24 in Medford, Massachusetts. The Mystic Valley Parkway was closed to traffic and the ordnance item was later determined to be an inert mortar.

Police find rocket from nuclear missile in Washington home

A resident of Bellevue, Washington contacted the National Museum of the United States Air Force to donate a rocket motor intended to serve as the delivery system for a nuclear warhead which had fallen into the man’s possession after a neighbor died. The Museum then contacted Bellevue Police Department who dispatched their bomb squad to a residence. The bomb squad identified the motor as a component of the AIR-2A Genie and determined it to be inert. The previous owner reportedly purchased to rocket motor at an estate sell and then it was inherited by the attempted donor, the chain of custody prior to being purchased at an estate sell is unknown.

World War II-era bomb uncovered at Florida airport during construction

Construction workers uncovered a World War II-era 1,000-pound bomb on 06FEB24 at their worksite in Hernando County, Florida. The Citrus County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and an Air Force EOD team out of MacDill Air Force Base were dispatched to the scene and determined the bomb to be inert.

Fake grenade leads to bomb squad being called in Boonville

A Boonville Police Department Chief spotted a hand grenade on a driveway in a residential area on 03FEB24 in Booneville, Indiana. The Evansville bomb squad was dispatched to the scene to investigate the grenade and determined it to be a replica.

Arrest papers contain new details on Colorado Springs explosion suspect

According to court records the delivery apparatus for the 12JAN24 IED detonation which took place in Colorado Springs, Colorado was an improvised hot air balloon constructed of 3M plastic sheeting with the corners tied together attached to a PVC pipe. The suspect had utilized a book titled Fireworks Cookbookas a guide to produce his homemade explosives. The suspect has had a 12-year history of experimenting with and detonating IEDs.

Illinois man sentenced for Methamphetamine delivery and possession of explosives

A suspect charged with Methamphetamine Delivery and possession of explosive or incendiary devices has been sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his crimes in 2020. The state of Illinois and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department proved that the suspect had detonated explosives around the Catlins, Illinois area, sold explosives, and discovered 74 grams of methamphetamine at the suspects residence when executing a search warrant.
