Threats against Loxahatchee HOA members lead to discovery of explosive devices
A suspect in Florida was arrested on 08FEB24 based on the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) Bomb Squad discovering multiple suspected improvised explosive devices (IED) at the suspect’s home during a search in December 2023 in Loxahatchee, Florida. Law enforcement found evidence suggesting the suspect extracted explosives from commercial fireworks and filled emptied out golf balls and cardboard rolls to manufacture IEDs.
Traffic stop leads to assault on police officer, threat of explosive device
A Salt Lake City police officer conducted a traffic stop which led to the suspect attempting to assault the officer with a knife and claiming to have explosives in the vehicle after the officer initiated an arrest based on the suspect having an active warrant on 10FEB24 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Following the arrest officers searched the suspect’s vehicle leading to the discovery of multiple jars containing an unknown liquid leading the officers to request assistance from the hazardous device unit and hazardous materials unit.

Man injured after explosion in West Philly apartment
The Philadelphia bomb squad and investigators with the ATF responded to an explosion at an apartment building on 12FEB24 in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. One individual was hospitalized from the explosion with severe injuries to his hand.
Cedar Rapids man faces charges over explosive devices
Law enforcement responded to a report of a suspicious device in a residential area on 05FEB24 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and determined the item to be an IED. The IED consisted of a flash powder filled tube with a wick protruding and a lit cigarette in close proximity to the wick. A fingerprint taken from the IED led law enforcement to establish a suspect and a search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s residence. Upon execution of the search warrant two additional similar devices were discovered. The suspect was arrested the following weekend on two misdemeanor counts of possession of explosive materials or destructive devices, a felony count of possession of explosive materials or destructive devices with intent to use, and a city misdemeanor of disorderly house.

Poplar Grove men charged after Boone Co. Sheriff’s Office recovers homemade explosives
Two suspects have turned themselves in on 09FEB24 for charges related to a Boone County Sheriff’s Office search of a residence on 21DEC23 in Popular Grove, Boone County, Illinois which led to the discovery of homemade explosives, guns and drugs. The two suspects face multiple charges consisting of unlawful use of weapons, possession of controlled substance, production of cannabis sativa plants, unlawful possession of serialization of unfinished receiver, and unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis.

Andrew County Sheriff's Office find suspicious device near County Road 401
The Andrew County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a suspected IED in a rural area on 10FEB24 in Andrew County, Missouri leading deputies to evacuate nearby homes and closing the roadway to traffic. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Explosives Unit was dispatched to the scene to analyze the suspected IED and render the suspected IED safe.
Bomb squad detonates reported suspicious item on 22nd Street in Ogden
The Ogden Police Department received reports of a suspicious package on 13FEB24 in Ogden, Utah. The police officers on scene requested bomb squad assistance due to being concerned the suspicious package contained explosives. The bomb squad decided to energetically disrupt the package leading to the determination that no explosives were present.

The Dayton Police Department is investigating a small explosion which took place on 13FEB24 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. The original dispatch was a report of shots fired; law enforcement determined the source of the noise had been a small explosion mistaken for gun shots.

A case related to a pipe bomb detonating in 01SEP06 at a train station in Hinsdale, Illinois has resulted in the defendant receiving 20 years in prison. The attack was conducted by placing the pipe bomb in a trashcan at the train station where it detonated injuring one station employee.
Man admits to building dangerous explosive device
A suspect charged with the distribution of explosive materials on the US territory of Guam in January 2023 has pled guilty with the possibility of receiving up to 10 years in prison. The discovery of the explosives came from police attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the defendant leading to him fleeing and crashing his vehicle. Police discovered an IED in the defendant’s vehicle. The defendant claimed to have sourced explosives from fireworks.
Lake Isabella man pleads guilty to distributing explosives
A defendant charged with distributing explosives to an unlicensed person has pled guilty on 12FEB24 resulting in 10 years in prison and a 250,000 dollar fine. The defendant has delivered boxes of blasting agent Hydromite which was stolen from Austin Powder West’s Lake Isabella storage facility to an unlicensed person in May of 2023.
Mexican soldiers and police uncovered two improvised weapons factories on 17JAN23 in La Huacana, Michoacán, Mexico where the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), La Familia Michoacana Cartel, and other local cartels operate and compete with one another. The illicit factories produced improvised bomblets for drone delivery and under-barrel 40 mm grenade launchers. The factories utilized a computer-controlled lathe and milling machine demonstrating significant metalworking capabilities.
